Tour Montparnasse

February 3rd, 2009 by paris

Situated near the Gare Montparnasse station (one of the busiest stations in Paris) on the Avenue du Maine is the Montparnasse Tower. This really is a must-see attraction in Paris, because from the top of the Tour Montparnasse you can see all of Paris spread around you in an uninterrupted 360 degrees.

Unlike the Eiffel Tower you do not need to spend hours waiting to ascend (no queues) and the joy of Tour Montparnasse is that from here you can see the Eiffel Tower in all it’s Parisian beauty. Go in evenings and see the Eiffel Tower become illuminated, a breathtaking sight.

Avoid dull cloudy weather because there might be very poor viability. Can you see the top of the Tour Montparnasse clearly? If the answer is no then don’t risk it, the view will be obscured. Having said that, this type of weather creates a very cozy environment in the restaurant and in the Cafe!

There are no queues, and a lift takes you to the top 56th floor in 38 seconds. There is an entrance fee, unless you have a reservation at the restaurant (rather pricy!).

Entrance fees for Tour Montparnasse are

10 euros for adults and

7 euros for students (cheaper than at the 3rd floor of the Eiffer Tower).

It is not included in the museum pass.

It’s a special sight that we enjoy by going there before sundown, to watch the city light up, take in the amazing view of the twinkling Eiffel Tower. When you need a break from the view there are many activities (films of Paris city, touch-screen computers) to keep you occupied.

Restaurants

Both the restaurant and the cafe has spectacular views.
