Situated in the outskirts of Paris the Basilique Saint Denis is the earliest French example of Gothic architecture. It is also a famous mausoleum for French aristocrats. Since the 5th century a total 43 Kings and 32 Queens have been interred here, often in ornately sculpted tombs and sarcophagi.
