La Grande Arche de La Defense is point of architectural interest located in the business district just outside of Paris. As it is a little out of the way to see and there is not much else to see and do in the area, many are of the opinion that if you are short on time, it is not worth the effort to go see.
If you do decide to visit, your best bet for transport is the Metro. It only takes about fifteen minutes from the center of Paris. Be sure to go during the day, as the area is almost completely desolate after 7 pm, being that it is almost exclusively a business center.
Besides the Arche, there are other good representations of modern architecture to view in this area. At the base of La Grande Arche de La Defense is a shopping mall called Les Quatre Temps. Ride the glass elevator up the Arche. At the top of the Arche there is a museum with rotating exhibits and souvenirs for sale. The view from the Arche can be quite nice, if the weather is cooperating, as it is built on axis along with the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe.
Just beyond La Grande Arche de La Defense are the Societe General Towers. Look down beyond the Arche and you will see two large towering buildings on the left hand side. Near the foot of the towers is the only brasserie in the area. It is called La Valmy if you wish to grab a bite to eat.
